High Note for 2017 - 257 performances

Well it's official!  At the end of 2017 we will have performed 257 times from Maine to South Carolina.  These performances include: house parties, festivals, churches, senior residential and day facilities, libraries, public and private schools, street performances, weddings, historical societies, Maine wind-jammers, restaurants, jams/workshops and college classrooms.  And with all this, Martha and Don traveled from Belfast, Maine to the Galax Fiddler's Convention.  Don brought back a 1st place ribbon for Mountain Dulcimer!.

Me & Martha   a.k.a  Don DePoy & Martha Hills

Twitter version:
Me & Martha are keepers of the flame of ‘real’ music, national treasures of America’s Mountain Music, a treasure trove of musical memorabilia, great story tellers with exceptional musical talents and are endlessly entertaining.

Martha and Don are married to each other and live in the Village of West View in Swoope, Virginia.  Martha Hills and Don DePoy enthusiastically bring Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley Music to the world. You’ll be quick to notice they embrace life and love to make music.  Me & Martha plays Americana Rural Roots Mountain Music, which includes American fiddle/banjo traditions, blues, old-time string band, sea shanties, work songs, hillbilly, traditional and classic country, bluegrass, rural swing, and contemporary folk ballads.
Using  mountain dulcimer, 5-string banjo, autoharp, guitar, Dobro, mandolin and bass fiddle, the duo continues the centuries old music making tradition of taking a little of this and that creating a fusion of whatever musical genres seem to fit effectively to create a fresh approach to the music.
Steeped in the tradition of improvised performing art, Me & Martha creates a space where everyone can experience musical art as unfolding stories. Many of Me & Martha’s signature songs explore the universal themes of everyday life. On stage, Martha and Don captivate audiences with spontaneous and often amusing banter and backed up by amazing vocal and instrument virtuosity.
Don is a 5th generation music maker from the Shenandoah Valley and holds a PhD specializing in American Music and Popular Culture and a Master's in Education (MEd).  Martha is an early childhood educator (BA) with over 15 years in private and public education.

HAPPY NEW YEAR & Happy Birthday Martha!

We've been a bit too busy to write in our web-site blog.  We finished out 2015 with our 218th gig.  We took the month of January 2016 off the road, doing only 5 local gigs all month and catching up on mounds of paperwork.  We are working on a new CD as this is being written.  First day in the studio, January 29th to record.  PS Martha's birthday in also on the 29th.
Jonas Makes a visit! to Massanutten Mountain in the heart of Virginia's  Shenandoah Valley.

Can it really be November?

It is hard to believe that two months have past since our last blog.   Time sure does fly by if you're having fun.  We are now at the time of the year where we look to 2016 for bookings.  For 2015 we are looking at finishing out with around 225 performances and around 50 jams and workshops.  All in all an average year. Next year our goal is to slow down a bit, a few less gigs and a bit more sailing, and more family time.  For day to day following of Me & Martha our Facebook pages tell all!

Where did August go?

We have been busy working up new songs, adding new clients (we have over 225), doing 27 gigs, had family visiting from Maine, and sailed for the first time on Rosie (more about Rosie on Facebook on July 29th posting).   Now we are settling in for September.

Finishing up in Roanoke Today

Finishing up with two gigs in Roanoke and heading home this afternoon - The aduiences just love our new show.  It's a lot of work to bring out a new show and hone the dialogue but worth the effort.  Home this afternoon -  Off til Tuesday next week!

Hanging out at Home

In from a GREAT road trip.  Turned out to be 14 gigs - 5- days.  Now we are home tending to our plants and garden, catching up on chores, and blackberrys almost done and corn is just starting to coming in. Nothing better than fresh picked corn on the cob,
