Mark your calendar for an evening of Mellow Folk, Sizzling Bluegrass and Sultry Swing. Native Belfast resident, Martha Hills and her husband Donald DePoy, touring as Me & Martha will be performing a free concert in the Abbott Room at the Belfast Free Library on Tuesday, July 23rd from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. As always, this will be an exciting homecoming! They first began performing together in Belfast in 2003. These two are internationally celebrated touring entertainers and have earned a solid reputation as authentic Appalachian musicians. This year they have a new album Country Girl’s Blue Moon celebrating Martha’s musical journey and her Maine roots. She has deep roots in New England’s musical legacy. Her great uncle Archie Gordon from Friendship was a renowned Maine fiddler who handcrafted over a hundred violins and was immersed in the New England fiddle community. Martha has numerous relatives who delighted everyone with their guitars and Grange piano music for generations. She met Don in 2000 and they shared a passion for music. Their complementary skills made them a perfect match. By blending New England folk tunes, sea shanties, and other regional songs with Don’s Shenandoah Valley Appalachian roots, they create a unique fusion that honors America’s diverse rural traditions. From concert halls to street busking, they captivate audiences with amazing vocals, sweet harmonies, hot pickin’ instrumental virtuosity and spontaneous, often amusing banter. They leave listeners lighthearted with clarity of what really matters in life.
